Sustainability at the core of architectural design

Architectural Intern, Kakani Associates

This residence is designed and constructed by taking key sustainability features into consideration.

The medium of construction being sun-dried bricks made of construction debris, this house speaks of simplicity with elegance and great attention to detail.

Unique aspects of this project

  • Locally sourced materials

  • Recycled materials

  • Bamboo elements

  • Rainwater recycling

  • Sustainability

Lily Pond

A lily pond was designed as a floating walkway between the porch and the residence backyard. The bedroom and foyer windows capture views of the pond and Champa tree (local fragrant flowering tree)

Terrace Garden

The garden on the first floor of the residence is a feature designed for leisure. Using sun-dried bricks, kota stone and shera board with some mosaic work, the design incorporates green spaces and a water feature for the hot and dry local climate

This small and unique residence was truly a joy to work on. It is sustainable in every aspect. From the use of materials to passive temperature control techniques. The intricate details that run all through the house are what make it special
